Kate Smith Sings ‘God Bless America’, You Tube

Common Sense Commentary: The song was originally written by Irving Berlin (who wrote ‘There’s No Business Like Show Business’ and ‘White Christmas’ among many others) in 1918, but not revised or recorded until Kate Smith, largely regarded as the best vocalist of her time, asked Berlin for a song in 1938. Economic and budding war anxieties hung over America and Kate was looking for a song to encourage the masses. The song takes the form of a prayer and became Smith’s signature song. The Philippines slightly revised the song and made it their own during World War II, inspiring Berlin to write Filipinos their own song, ‘Heaven Watch The Philippines,’ towards the end of the war. “America” was the official campaign song for Franklin Roosevelt, and for his opponent, Wendell Wilkie, the last outsider (before Trump) to run for President, losing to FDR in 1940.

Quote: “The bulk of the American government’s intervention into the health care system is done through health insurance, and so American analysts often look at Singapore’s insurance system and stop there. But the bulk of the Singapore government’s intervention into the health care system is through the health care system itself.”

Trump/Abbas: What Palestinians Think And Why, Caroline Glick, Breaking Israel News

Quote: “68% of Palestinians believe that even if a Palestinian state is established in Gaza, Judea and Samaria with Jerusalem as its capital, they should continue to aspire to Israel’s destruction. In other words, even if the PLO signs a deal with Israel that says the conflict has been resolved, for 68% of Palestinians the conflict will continue. They oppose ending the education of their children to seek Israel’s destruction and accepting Israel as a peaceful neighbor…69 years ago, the Jews established our state. A Palestinian state was not established then or since, not because Israel was unwilling for such a state to come into being, but because the Palestinians refuse to accept Israel’s right to exist.”

Culture: Religion Has Failed. Pop Music Has Not, Mark Judge, Spice Today

CS Commentary: Here’s an interesting viewpoint which either begs the question, “Where has this guy been the last 25 years that he missed the supernatural and the mystical in the prophetic renewal/charismatic movement?” Or, I guess, “Where has the church been and why is it still so irrelevant to present culture that it missed inviting this guy to the party?” If the present day church were really SALT less views like this would prevail and one wouldn’t overrate Samantha so. And music in the church would be a bigger draw than it is, parts of Hillsong and a few others excepted.
